Infrared thermal wave detection of interfacial debonding defects of thermal barrier coatings based on non-linear frequency modulation

چکیده

In order to improve the reliability of detecting debonding defects at interface thermal barrier coatings (TBC), a non-linear frequency modulated (NLFM) infrared wave detection method is proposed. A NLFM system built, and zirconia TBC specimens are prepared tested. The effects defect diameter, excitation power, initial termination on effect analyzed. Three algorithms such as principal component analysis (PCA) used process image sequence, signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) each sequence processing algorithm calculated compared. results show that larger diameter defect, easier it be detected, appropriate adjustment power or reduction frequencies beneficial defects. Compared with other two algorithms, PCA more effective for processing. It offers reference flaws interface.

Active Infrared Thermography for Non Destructive Evaluation of Defects in Wear Resistance and Thermal Barrier Coatings

In fossil fuel power generation plants, steam generation tubes and turbine blades are critical for overall performance of plant. The materials are subjected to bear heavy wear and temperature during operation. The manufacturer has an option of using high wear resistant and high temperature materials which are costlier or using cheaper materials with ceramic coatings over it. The coatings expose...

AN INVESTIGATION ON EFFECT OF BOND COAT REPLACEMENT ON HOT CORROSION PROPERTIES OF THERMAL BARRIER COATINGS

In the present study NiCrAlY bond coating layer was produced by electroplating against common atmospheric plasma spraying (APS). Both types of the bond coats were applied on IN738LC base metal then, the YSZ (ZrO2-8% Y2O3) thermal barrier top layer was coated by atmospheric plasma spray technique. Hot corrosion is one of the main destructive factors in thermal barrier coatings (TBCs) which come ...

Microstructural investigations of EBPVD thermal barrier coatings

This paper deals with the morphology, constitutive phases and fine microstructures of some EBPVD processed yttria partially stabilized zirconia thermal barrier coatings. This study has been performed by X-ray diffraction and scanning and transmission electron microscopy. It was shown that the coatings studied were constituted of a single metastable tetragonal t' phase, as expected if one refers...

Thermophysical properties of thermal barrier coatings

Thin layers of thermal barrier coating (TBCs) are applied to metallic components of heat engines to reduce metal temperatures and to provide environmental protection. This results in increased engine efficiency and prolonged operational life. Of special current interest is the use of TBCs in aircraft engines. The TBCs, often yttria-stabilized zirconia (YSZ), are deposited on nickel or cobalt-ba...
